Turtle Bay Plymouth is a chain restaurant and bar with bags of energy and plenty of soul near Sutton harbour in Plymouth. The restaurant sits next to RBS in a relatively demure building, from the outside this doesn’t look like much but once inside you realise that this is an ideal spot for when you want a lively breakfast, lunch and evening with friends and family. The interior is filled with multi-coloured furniture, wall art and vibrant trinkets that give more away about the style of the space, energetic.
The menu is extensive with a wide range of Caribbean-inspired dishes. For breakfast, you can choose things like the big Kingston grill down (the Caribbean answer to the Full English breakfast featuring jerk bacon and sausages) as well as options like smashed avocado and poached eggs. For lighter and simpler options from the main menu you can choose from things like buddha bowls, burgers and fresh roti filled with jerk chicken. For more substantial dishes you can choose from sections encompassing jerk pit dishes, West Indian curries and soul food like curry goat hash. All of this can be paired with a large list of some seriously tempting sides like cheesy jerk fries and grilled jerk halloumi. There’s also a list of small plates that can either work as starters or are the perfect accompaniment to go with some drinks.
The drinks list has everything one might want but focuses mainly on cocktails and a long list of rums. The cocktails range from the classic (Mojito) to the unique - like the UB40 cocktail (white rum, raspberry, blackberry, ginger beer and red wine) - whilst the rums focus a range of styles and can be paired with different mixers… or enjoyed neat. The drinks are perhaps best enjoyed during the daily happy hour which offers two for one cocktails, or even during the daily bottomless brunches which allow the whole table to enjoy a selected dish from the menu and two hours of bottomless cocktails, mocktails, beer or Prosecco.
