Having taken over the site of the Rock Salt Café, Thirty One is a produce led, modern British restaurant serving a seasonally changing menu alongside a natural wine list. Headed up by head chef Lee, who boasts a lengthy career in the Royal Navy and across award winning hotel kitchens in the Cotswolds, Thirty One is already gaining a reputation as Plymouth’s new culinary gem. Inside, the décor is minimalist with neutral tones, wooden tables and blue accents, creating a warm ambience bridging the gap between fine dining and casual meals out.
On the menu, you’ll find an ever changing selection of modern European dishes, all sourced from the Devon and Cornwall larder and coast where possible. Start with nibbles like crispy fried squid with marie rose dressing, and gordal olives with pesto and feta before digging into tasty starters including pork and sage scotch egg with triple mustard mayonnaise and pickled red onion, octopus with truffle, pumpkin, passionfruit and candied pumpkin seed, and Plymouth gin cured salmon with sweet and sour wasabi, walnut, apple and brioche.
For your main course, there is a range of meat, fish and vegetarian dishes such as slow cooked beef cheek with creamed potato, roscoff onion, lychee and a red wine jus, roasted cod with crab bisque, saffron potato, fennel and samphire, and woodland mushroom orzo with coffee, truffle, and a lime and hazelnut crumb. Traditional desserts like sticky toffee pudding feature, as well as a British cheese selection if that's more your bag.
The Sunday roast at Thirty One is also hugely popular and includes options like dry aged sirloin and roast pork loin, served with all the traditional trimmings.
To accompany your meal, Thirty One boasts a stellar international wine list which showcases natural growth wine, with unique bottles, well known labels, and plenty availabile by the glass.
