The White Pheasant is a firm favourite of the racing set from nearby Newmarket as well as visitors to the nearby Wicken Fen, one of the National Trust’s major wetland reserves. Dating back to the
1600s, it has the feel of a well-loved pub, but it is definitely run more as a restaurant with tables laid ready for dining. The menu & specials board always offer a diverse & extensive
choice, with good local ingredients forming the backbone of the British-with-a-twist menu. Reasonably priced starters include the likes of peppered organic goats’ cheese ‘cake’ with pressed tomato
& shallot salad, followed by hearty, interesting mains such as roasted haunch steak of wild venison with boulangere potatoes, purple-sprouting broccoli, baby beets & red wine jus. Local
beers available too.
