Arguably the best known inn on the moor, and now owned by the Duchy of Cornwall, the Warren House Inn is located between Princetown and Moretonhampstead, in a commanding position with great views all around. At 1425ft it is apparently higher than any other pub in southern England and, in one of the coldest winters in England, 1963, the inn was cut off by snow for approximately 12 weeks when supplies were flown in by helicopter. These scenes are celebrated in pictures in the bar.
Decent pub grub is is the order of the day, along the lines of soup, breaded deep-fried jalapeño peppers or king prawns followed by pie of the day with chips or steak and ale pie, steak baguette or breaded scampi. Round it all off with sticky toffee pudding or hot chocolate fudge cake if looking for a sugar rush to see you on your way. Dog are allowed in the bar (but not the restaurant).
