The Three Horseshoes is a pub with lodgings in the quaint Somerset country village of Batcombe, run by acclaimed chef Margot Henderson. The project is Henderson's first venture outside of the capital, where she has had a storied career at the helm of Rochelle Canteen.
The Three Horseshoes promises to bring Henderson's honest, authentic cookery to the Somerset countryside, pairing it with the best of Somerset produce. Local producers and farmers will be championed here, from family-run smokery Brown and Forest to Westcombe Dairy, an award-winning dairy that happens to be less than a kilometre from the restaurant. Henderson's food has always been about celebrating rustic, robust British and Mediterranean food, and The Three Horseshoes will be no different, with hearty mains like chicken and tarragon pie, and lemon sole with gribiche following easy-going starters such as devilled crab and focaccia, and Westcombe ricotta gnudi with sage and butter.
Though Henderson brings a lofty reputation with her from London, The Three Horseshoes will retain the atmosphere of a local pub. The 17th century inn has been lovingly restored, from the beamed ceiling and open fireplaces to flagstone floors. Locals and dogs alike will be welcome for dinner, or just to prop up the bar with a snack. Incidentally, the snack menu includes veal mince on toast, another Henderson signature.
The pub also has a stunning walled garden, created by local Batcombe designer Libby Russell, where guests can sit in the summer months amongst fruit trees and cutting flowers.
There are also five beautiful bedrooms for overnight guests, each equipped with freestanding bathtubs, rain-showers, and tastefully decorated and designed with antiques and art by Frances Penn.
