Sitting pretty atop a cliff with sweeping views of the stunning Camel Estuary, the St Moritz hotel and spa is perfectly placed for a Cornish getaway, just two and half miles away from the village of Rock and only a short ferry ride to Padstow.
Chef Jonathan Domé is the man in charge of the hotel’s food and beverage offering, which includes a sleek bar for pre- or post-dinner cocktails and a seaside cafe that opens during the summer season and is found by the hotel’s outdoor pool. The Shorecrest Restaurant is the hotel’s flagship foodie space, occupying an expansive dining room that follows a monochromatic colour scheme and comes complete with an open kitchen. The restaurant is open daily for dinner from 6pm and welcomes both guests of the hotel and non-residents.
The menu at Shorecrest Restaurant evolves with the seasons and is underpinned by Cornwall’s natural larder, taking full advantage of the area’s abundance of fresh seafood, meat and vegetables. The a la carte is a succinct, yet well considered affair, beginning with starting dishes such as diver caught scallops with orange and pistachio or pork belly glazed with a sticky mix of anise and honey. Main courses meanwhile include the hearty likes of aged beef fillet served alongside watercress sabayon, dressed lobster, beef dripping chips and truffle dauphinoise (designed to be shared between two - perfect for date night), alongside lighter options such as Moroccan spiced spatchock chicken with fruity couscous and kale.
To round off your meal, take your pick from The Shorecrest Restaurant’s tempting selection of desserts, which features sweet treats including peach tarte tatin with honeycomb and lime gelato or a Baileys and salted caramel and baked cheesecake. After dinner, head to Shorecrest bar for cocktails and enjoy the outdoor terrace on balmy summer evenings.
