About

The Scarlet Hotel is a luxury eco hotel found on the edge of Mawgan Porth beach and is home to The Scarlet Restaurant, which offers a seasonal menu of dishes using only the finest local produce. Featuring stunning views across the beach and right down to the sea, The Scarlet Restaurant is open both to residents of the hotel and the general public. This means that it’s a great dining destination for those looking for a truly special meal in Cornwall. Serving breakfast, lunch, afternoon tea and dinner, all to the highest standard, there’s something for every occasion at The Scarlet Restaurant.

Located just steps away from the sand, the hotel’s restaurant has large floor-to-ceiling windows which not only provide views to die for but also allow sunlight to flood in. Wooden tables are widely spaced around the dining room while there is very little in the way of décor to ensure that the natural beauty below is the focus. The Scarlet Restaurant also benefits from a wonderful outdoor seating area where you can dine during the warmer months.

When it comes to the regularly changing food menus at The Scarlet Restaurant, there’s a focus on uncomplicated dishes, which don’t have too many competing ingredients on the plate. Expect starters on the dinner menu such as squid ink linguini with crab, Cornish seaweed, chilli and parmesan, and roasted pigeon breast with heritage carrots and braised lentils. Main courses might include roasted cod fillet with beetroot, crushed potato, romanesco and a herb dressing, and wild mushroom and tarragon risotto, while desserts range from a coconut and lime rice pudding to a muscovado panna cotta.

There’s the option to have a three-course wine flight and a glass of fizz to accompany your meal for £40, or you can choose your own wine from the extensive list.

We stayed at The Scarlet for a week recently, and had breakfast, lunch, supper and dinner in The Scarlet on various days. The restaurant is beautifully positioned with fantastic views out over the beach and cliffs at Mawgan Porth, and a lovely terrace outside for sunny days – for views this place definitely competes with places like Vertigo, Oxo Tower, etc. The menu changes daily for dinner, with an emphasis on fresh, locally sourced produce. It's £42 for a three course set menu, with an imaginative wine list and tonnes of wines by the glass. Breakfast also changes daily and lunch and supper are both served from an “anytime, anywhere” menu which you can have by the pool, in the bar, on the roof terrace or as room service. I would definitely go back.
