The Salt Pig was originally established in Wareham in 2010 by James Warren, with the second site in Swanage opening in 2018. Both consist of an urban farm shop, butchery and restaurant with top quality dishes available as well as outside catering for events and weddings.
The team pride themselves on quality and provenance with the chefs using daily changing produce to create the freshest dishes inspired by British cuisine and James Warren's passion for barbecuing. The meat is sourced from the Salt Pig's own rare breed Mangalitsa and Berkshire pigs on local heathland and woodland, just four miles from the Wareham premises.
The Swanage site is able to seat up to 50 guests and is situated in a beautiful setting, just a stone's throw away from Swanage beach. While the menu changes frequently, the sample menu provides a good hint at what delights ou might discover at The Salt Pig.
Start off with a hearty bowl of roast parnsip soup, with bread and butter for dipping, to warm you up in the colder months. Perhaps you might fancy a touch of seafood for starters and opt for the salt and pepper squid or blanchbait with tartare.
Heading onto mains is where you'll experience the real magic of The Salt Pig's fresh produce. They transform the meat into rustic burgers, topped with cheese and bacon, as well as serving it as a classic sirloin, accompanied by rustic chips, roasted vine tomatoes and juicy baked mushrooms. If you are a vegetarian diner, the team still has something to suit you with the likes of a roasted mixed vegetable linguine blanketed in a flavoursome neapolitan sauce and served with vegetable crisps for a satisfying crunch.
Finish off your experience by selecting an indulgent dessert. Enjoy a warming apple cake or rich chocolate tart, sprinkled with a touch of sea salt.
