The latest filly in Mosaic’s small stable of pubs – see also Walkers of Whitehall –The Running Horse has all its contemporary tack in place. The modern exterior features French windows and a terrace, but inside wooden floorboards and brick walls hark back to early epochs. Star attraction is the glorious tiled central bar from where Truman’s tank beer and an impressive choice of gin (try the Brockmans from Woking) are dispensed. Craft ale devotees might prefer Magic Rock’s fruit-infused Salty Kiss, while a wine list ordered by style and a select batch of cocktails ensure all liquid bases are covered. Likewise, food from the open kitchen keeps an eye on modern trends – whether it be small plates of ’nduja croquettes or Cornish crab cakes, or perhaps char-grilled monkfish and courgette kebab from the Middle Eastern-flavoured main courses. Sunday lunch and Saturday’s bottomless brunch also make this Horse worth a punt.
