The River Restaurant is a high-end seafood restaurant found at legendary Covent Garden hotel The Savoy, the second of two eateries at the hotel which are overseen by celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay.
The River Restaurant is found in the space which used to house oyster bar and seafood restaurant Kaspar’s, with the space retaining a similar sense of elegance as its predecessor. The dining room has been brought to life by the much-feted Russell Sage Design Studios, who have previously worked with Ramsay on his other restaurants such as Bread Street Kitchen in St Paul’s.
Although Ramsay’s name is above the door, as is the case with most celebrity-led restaurants, he is not actually the one cooking at the stove. Instead, chef Matt Worswick is in charge of heading up the kitchen here, also acting as executive chef for Ramsay’s other restaurant at the hotel, the Savoy Grill.
As for the menu at The River Restaurant, you can expect a varied offering of mainly seafood focused dishes, including high-end touches such as oysters and caviar. Guests will be able to choose from classic seafood dishes as well as a few internationally inspired options - think whole baked Cornish turbot sat alongside the likes of sea bass ceviche with blood orange and fennel or a tandoori monkfish curry.
Speaking about the new opening, Ramsay said: “I’m really looking forward to welcoming our guests to the new restaurant in the coming weeks… I absolutely love The Savoy. Eighteen years ago, it was a dream come true to take over the Savoy Grill, so to be trusted with a second restaurant in the heart of this incredible location, is an absolute honour.”
The Savoy Grill first opened its doors way back in 1889, with Ramsay and his team initially taking over the reins in 2003.
