SquareMeal Review of The Queen's Head - Acton Street

Reopened after a refurbishment in keeping with the current vogue for cloth-cap utilitarianism, the Queen’s Head is an honest, decent boozer for unpretentious folk who don’t necessarily fancy the
dressed-up offerings in rapidly gentrifying, newer quarters of King’s Cross. Among the regularly rotated choice of beery sups are Schiehallion (a lovely, lively lager from Scottish brewers
Harviestoun at £4.20 a pint), Golden Ticket (a rarity from the Spa microbrewery in Tunbridge Wells) & Meantime Pale Ale, plus a supporting cast of foreigners including Licher Weizen wheat beer
& Duvell Green. To eat, take on a ploughman’s or square up to a chunky cheese sarnie or Melton Mowbray pork pie with piccalilli. A fair selection of wines, cider & basic cocktails is also
on offer, & the pub does a good line in entertainment – everything from live blues & singsongs round the old Joanna to open-mic comedy & quiz nights.
