SquareMeal Review of The Punch Tavern

Journos from Punch magazine allegedly congregated in this tavern during the mid-19th century, & they’d probably be pleased to see this British bulldog of a pub still bears the publication’s name. Fairy lights & a slightly incongruous fish tank don’t add much to the stately Victorian interior with its smoky wood panelling & ornate marble bar, but luckily the menu rings like a refrain from ‘Rule Britannia’. Honey-roast ham & eggs or Biggles sausages with mash & onion gravy are typically patriotic mains, but if you’re feeling nostalgic go for the ‘British Empire’ sharing platter, with samosas, spring rolls & Welsh rarebit. Doom Bar, Summer Lightning & Hobgoblin are among the real ales on tap.

Ultimate pub experience

Wow what an afternoon with Riley.  He gave 4 old birds from Australia an experience to remember. His witty charm made our day. Alex looked after us so well and we thoroughly enjoyed our meal. Thank you so much for the exceptional service Riley. We will definitely recommend the Punch Tavern  to our Aussie friends. What a memorable day!!

Couldnt have asked for more.
The Punch Tavern is a great little find in central London. Everything for the History of the pub (which the staff were eager to sear with me) to the 3 very well kept traditional English Ales, to the tasty pub grub menu. It really delivered on every level. Ended up spending far longer then I originally anticipated. We most defiantly head back for one of there Pub Quiz nights.

I actually love the Punch Tavern, they are always so helpful and the service brilliant, never had a bad meal there in all the years I have been using it. Have held lots of events there over the years and always been fantastic service, food, drinks etc. It is a pub but I like the atmosphere in there. Yes very busy all the time and staff are always rushed off their feet but you never see them moaning they are always in good spirits. Also they provide a great take away service and delivery service for breakfasts, lunches, canapes etc, food always delivered with a smile! Keep up the good work guys, love you all Chrissie xxx

The Punch has won numerous awards for it food, that are proudly displayed outside and within the pub. Unfortunately they are let down by the lack of staff / service and the smell of beer all over the floor. I appreciate it is a boozer but thought it was supposed to be a little better than others on Fleet St. The San Miguel is the best beer on tap but if you are planning on going for a drink Monday night (first Monday of the month) is quiz night. It will be busy and the staff will be rushed off their feet.
