With its enormous garden strewn with picnic tables stretching down to the river, The Plough offers one of the best locations on the edge of Cambridge to while away a lazy summer afternoon with a beer in hand, watching rowers and swans glide past. Nevertheless, if you are tempted to eat here, make sure you are in the food service area (inside or on the smaller upper terrace). Then be prepared to do battle with one of the longest menus in the county, incorporating everything from Mediterranean meze to glazed lamb ribs. The staff and kitchen tend to get overwhelmed by demand, so expect long delays at busy periods. While the quality is OK, it doesn’t always match up to the price or the wait. The Plough’s car park gets busy, hence it’s best to walk here from town through leafy meadows along the riverside path.
