Foodies, please note: Rogan's blown the last whistle on his Cartmel pub
Still swooning from lunch at L’Enclume, we toddled across to (what we believed to be) another branch of Simon Rogan's Cartmel empire. I’m clearly behind on my catering news as it seems the chef cut ties with this pub back in spring, and his Michelin Midas touch has also left the building. That’s not to say the Pig and Whistle is unworthy as a quaint country tavern in its own right; the beer garden overlooks a field of merrily mooing cows, while the cosy log fire leaves you feeling snug as a bug. We encountered service with a smile, and there were cask ales a-plenty to please CAMRA enthusiasts (as to be expected from Robinsons brewery). Alas on this occasion we had no capacity for pints and were in the market for a posh tipple, so the bog-standard wine selection was a disappointment. It's a casual place to pop in for a natter and a noggin though, in between sticky toffee puddings of course.
