Remodelled and rebooted as The Perception, W London’s bling first-floor DJ lounge-bar salutes another era. But for all its ‘Le Freak, c’est Chic’ 1978 New York nightclub pose, we reckon this full-on party room belongs more in 1998 Sex and the City. Cocktails, served at two bars, are reasonably priced by swank hotel standards and – despite time-warp titles such as Lady Marmalade Mojito and Ginger Spice (Patrón Silver Tequila, Cointreau, framboise liqueur, chilli and ginger) – are firmly 21st century. Fash-pack comfort food spans lobster mac 'n' cheese, Buddha bowls, trad tapas, and baked cheesecake. The later the hour, the louder and looser the vibe. Shrinking violets (in which case, why are you here?) can always seek refuge behind a bench-lined circular stage on which live acts (including curious cabaret) cavort.
