Found next to Bude’s picturesque canal, The Olive Tree is a casual all-day restaurant, serving an accessible and well-rounded menu of modern European food. The Olive Tree is an expansive space, offering both alfresco dining on the street-side terrace (complete with parasols to provide you with some shade) and dine-in options in the main dining room and conservatory.
Inside, you will encounter a rustic chic space, complete with exposed brick walls, sanded down wooden floors and bare wooden tables topped with miniature vases of fresh blooms. The Olive Tree’s expansive menu takes diners through from breakfast to dinner, while those following alternative or restricted diets need not worry - there are dedicated vegan and vegetarian menus to choose from, as well as gluten-free and dairy-free menus.
If you are popping in for brunch, you can start your day with coffee and freshly baked pastries, or opt for savoury delights such as a full English breakfast or scrambled egg on toast with salmon. Come lunchtime, The Olive Tree’s menu expands to include sandwiches, soups and salads. If you are feeling particularly ravenous though, try one of the restaurant’s burgers (your choice of beef, chicken or halloumi patty) alongside skin-on fries and salad, with the option to upgrade to sweet potato fries or a luxury variety topped with Parmesan and truffle shavings.
In the evening, burgers and the like are bookended by starters of prawn cocktail or mushrooms in a chilli and garlic dressing, plus tempting desserts - think a spiced roasted pineapple or Belgian chocolate fudge cake. There is a dedicated kids menu too if you are bringing the little ones along, which features mac ‘n’ cheese or fish goujons with peas.
All of the usual wines and beers are on hand to try too, plus teas, coffees and soft drinks for teetotalers.
