About
Tarted up and lightened up, this newly refitted Greene King pub has upped its game with a much-improved choice of food and drink. The venue has long been known as a convenient hook-up spot before a concert at the nearby Apollo, but pre-giggers now have reason to linger. Brewdog, Goose Island and Truman’s beers receive star billing, supported by guest craft brews; you’ll also find daily deals on unchallenging wines. Families and local office workers provide the daytime custom, whereas the night-time crowds are drawn by quizzes, live music and DJ sets – and the beer garden is great for lazy sunny Sunday lolling. Food (served noon-9pm) is a similarly catch-all assortment: from toasties, Mexican wraps and fish finger sarnies – via macaroni cheese, £8 super salads and deli sharing boards – to meaty pies, confit duck cassoulet and design-your-own-burgers. Need a pud after all that? Try a crumble, torte or cheesecake.
