The decor might be all vintage upcycling (pun intended), with ‘antler trophies’ made from handlebars, but the Old Bicycle Shop is the new kid on Cambridge’s increasingly foodie Regent Street. It is housed in what was Britain’s oldest bike shop, and the cocktail list milks the theme with the likes of ‘Marginal Gains’, a sharp modern take on G&T with green-tea powder and lime. Food is an adventurous mix of classics with a spin: think terrine of guinea fowl and apricot, or saffron salt-cured coley with Bombay potato. There’s plenty to please vegans, though meat-eaters should try the ‘posh kebab’: moist, flavoursome shreds of slow-roasted shoulder of lamb on a focaccia-style bread with excellent slaw piled on top. The small, busy front bar is well-stocked with ales, and there are also several private dining rooms, but we recommend bagging the restaurant’s comfy benches and settling in for a long ride.
