The Morecambe Hotel is a short walk from the beach in its namesake Lancastrian seaside resort. Originally a 19th century coaching inn, the building was renovated in 2015. Rooms range from £105-150 a night. There are seven in total and the hotel also has a large garden.
Food is served from breakfast to dinner. The former features a full Lancashire breakfast, eggs Benedict and sliced avocado on sourdough, while the latter continues the Lancashire theme.
Starters include potted shrimp, Morecambe’s most famous dish, crispy fried whitebait and creamy Lancashire cheese souffle. Mains are all about the grill. You can choose from four kinds of steak (flat iron, rib-eye, sirloin, fillet) all served with hand cut chunky chips, watercress salad and a grilled mushroom. There’s also a 16oz gammon steak and steak burger. The burger is 4oz patties topped with, among others, Monterey Jack cheese and streaky bacon.
On Sundays a roast is served. Meat options (all of which were read in Lancashire’s neighbour Cumbria) are a garlic and rosemary crusted D-rump beef, leg of lamb or chicken supreme. All of these come with the usual trimmings plus buttered samphire and black pudding croquette.
The Morecambe Hotel also offers afternoon tea. This is served Monday to Friday between 12-5pm. It’s £17.95 with tea and coffee and £19.95 with prosecco or a flight of real ale. The menu features the likes of pork and onion sausage roll, ham hock terrine, sliced ham and piccalilli sandwiches and a selection of cakes.
The lunch menu is two courses for £14 or three for £17. To start, choose from halloumi bites, salt and pepper chicken or soup of the day. Mains include sweet potato and chickpea curry and fish bites and chips.
The hotel can also be hired for special occasions. This comes with three buffet menu options, ranging from £10.95-19.95 a head.
