Part of the luxury Mayfair Townhouse hotel, The Lower Ground is a smart all-day restaurant found on the hotel’s basement level.
The dark and moody dining room is a glamorous affair featuring olive green wood-panelled walls, chic table lamps and leather banquette seating. The Lower Ground menu is a short, but well considered selection of modern European dishes which work at either lunch or dinner, as well suited to important business meetings as they are to catch ups with friends.
The restaurant’s food offering begins with a selection of light bites and small plates. Choose between the likes of truffle and Parmesan arancini, charred padron peppers topped with smoked maldon salt or raw crudites with hummus. Main courses meanwhile comprise a range of seasonal salads, burgers, sandwiches and other dishes. If you are feeling virtuous, order a Supergrain Salad consisting of charred broccoli, black quinoa and puffed corn or opt for roasted cod served alongside spiced aubergine, tomato chutney and harissa yogurt.
Diners who fancy something a little more substantial can instead choose a crispy duck wrap or the Townhouse burger (aged beef, smoked streaky bacon, house relish), both served with house coleslaw and your choice of skinny or sweet potato fries. Those in the mood for true indulgence meanwhile can opt for the lobster curry with fragrant cardamom rice.
To round off your meal, tuck into tempting sweet and savoury afters - think sticky toffee pudding with pecans and vanilla ice cream to satisfy any sugar cravings or a Home Counties cheese plate complete with oatcakes and plum and walnut chutney for those with a savoury tooth.
After your meal, head to the neighbouring Dandy Bar where you will find an extensive selection of red and white wines and Champagnes, as well as a list of house cocktails, with low and no-alcohol options also available.
