The Lion is found on Glastonbury Road in West Pennard. When it comes to food, you'll find everything from homemade Scotch eggs and rarebit to daily specials. Here, you'll find a bar of well stocked variety, with an eclectic mix of draught lagers, ciders and ales, with an extensive hand crafted wine list and a range of local soft drinks.
On the last Thursday of each month, you can join the team at The Lion for an intimate evening of tasting delicious wine. Alongside your wines, you will be served a cheese selection to compliment the wine (and line the stomach!).
Kick off with some nibbles - pickled melon and prosciutto, a bread board and olives. Starters range from baked camembert with toast and crudites to a whipped baba ghanoush, pennard tomatoes and crispy chickpeas right through to a dish of roast squash and shiitake mushroom dashi broth. Mains range from the braised beef feather blade with beef fat brioche, mashed potato and balsamic jus to spiced heritage carrots with chaat marsala, bombay potatoes and a herb and hazelnut dressing. Dessert will leave the loveliest taste in your mouth, with a lemon posset with raspberries and salted butter shortbread, triple chocolate skillet cookie and sgroppino of mango sorbet and Black Cow vodka on the menu.
On Sundays, be delighted by a delicious and traditional Sunday roast. Start off with pan roasted pigeon with pickled beets, pear and watercress, or a dish of Bath blue cheese, English apple and pecan salad. Roast options include Kingweston sirloin of beef, free range pork belly, leg of lamb, Scottish salmon lobster veloute and a beetroot and pistachio nut roast. All are served with roast potatoes, roasted beetroot, glazed carrots, parsnip, greens and a yorkshire pudding.
