Away from the tumult of the drinking and dining spots packing the lobby of Soho House’s huge luxury hotel, a new bar has been squeezed into what was hitherto The Ned’s presumably under-subscribed ‘library’. The most popular read here now is the list of Champagne marques – from Billecart-Salmon by the stem to super-spendy Salon ‘le Mesnil’. Martinis prepped, Downton-style, à table, from the contents of a perambulating trolley, also attract devotees. Settle yourself on the autumnal-tone seating and savour signature cocktails: coconut and lemongrass-tickled Velvet Fizz, or an Apricot Vesper if you will. We prefer the hardcore dry Martinis built on solid foundations – Plymouth Navy Strength, Death’s Door and Nikka Coffey gin, say, or Beluga Celebration Gold, Grey Goose VX and Sauvelle vodka. We also rate the ice-cold Isfjord (Arctic) Vodkatini alongside luxe snacks of caviar, oysters, or Wagyu beef tartare. Drinks prices are up there with starrier hotel bars.
