Based in the heart of the historic city of Cambridge, The Ivy Cambridge Brasserie is another of the Caprice Holdings chain’s outposts outside of London, and sees many of the classic elements of the original Ivy transported to this famous university city. Located on a traditional cobbled street, it’s a restaurant suited to all sorts of different occasions, with a classic all-day menu and up-market decor. Yet the best thing about The Ivy Cambridge Brasserie is that it manages to maintain a relaxed air despite having a smart feel overall.
The restaurant is understated from the outside with its mint facade blending in perfectly with the other shops on the street. However, once you step inside you’re greeted with vibrant colours; the walls are all decorated with bright pieces of modern art, all the seats are upholstered in blues, greens and yellows, while a glistening bar hugs one side of the dining room.
In terms of food, there are plenty of different menus on offer including a breakfast menu served every morning, which includes everything from pastries to a full English. However the main event, is the huge all-day menu which begins with starters such as tempura prawns with salt and pepper squid, garden pea soup served with a crispy tuile, and cured smoked salmon on rye bread. Main courses on the menu include a roast fillet of salmon with asparagus and crushed pink pepper hollandaise, as well as roast corn-fed chicken served with truffle mashed potato and a red wine sauce. Finally, the crowd-pleasing pudding menu features dishes such as a strawberry ice cream sundae and a baked apple tart.
The food menu is accompanied by a varied list of drinks, which includes a number of wines by the bottle and glass, craft lager, and even a selection of alcoholic and non-alcoholic cocktails.
