The Hare & Hounds is a delightful coaching inn that has been modernised into a pub and restaurant, whilst keeping plenty of its historical charm. Inside, you will find a delicious set of menus with real craft beers, handpicked wines and good old fashioned service. You'll find this restaurant in Newbury, just a short walk from the town centre in the village of Speen. You'll be close by to big attractions, such as Highclere Castle and also to Donnington. The inn is dog friendly, and your best friend will be looked after with a fresh bowl of water and some snacks. The Hare & Hounds has a farm-to-fork approach and a great selection of drinks, making it a cherished spot in this historic area of West Berkshire.
The a la carte menu is served from midday until 9.30pm Monday through to Friday, and between 3 and 9.30pm on Saturday, as the brunch menu is in rotation during the morning and early afternoon. Start your meal with delicious nibbles of bread, like a freshly baked ancient grain sourdough with wild garlic butter. Share some small plates amongst the table, like the hoisin glazed crispy duck and watermelon salad with Asian slaw, fermented red chilli and toasted sesame seeds, along with a goats cheese and heritage tomato salad with black olives and avocado, and pan seared king scallops with a spring pea and mint puree, Jersey Royals and charred pancetta.
There are so many lovely main dishes to try out, including the confit belly of English pork with spring vegetables and a white bean cassoulet and salsa verde, and the buttermilk Norfolk chicken and bacon pot pie with Madeira jus.
