A prime berth on Lyme’s tumbledown seafront is one of the Harbour Inn’s great assets, and it has the bonus of a terrace and veranda beside a stretch of sandy beach. Mother and son Sue and Mark Oldfield run the place, while Mark’s sister is responsible for the seascapes that decorate the walls of the bar. Food-wise, locally landed seafood is the main attraction, and it’s worth looking for specials such as hake fillet with crab ravioli and chive beurre blanc, lobster thermidor or plaice stuffed with asparagus mousse. Otherwise, fill up on slow-roast Devon pork belly with bubble and squeak, lasagne or a plate of cold cuts. The pub also sports a decent wine list with some locally brewed sparklers for those lazy days – no wonder it’s popular with the boating types who gather around iconic Cobb harbour in the summer.
