About

Not to be confused with the famous City chophouse of the same name, The George & Vulture pub in Hoxton claims to be London’s ‘tallest tavern’ with a dramatic Victorian gothic exterior rising skywards over five floors. Inside, it’s all about Fuller’s ales, rare craft beers, fine whiskies and old-school pubby grandeur, although the food is something a bit different. Sourdough pizzas from the guys at Sodo Kitchen are the main event: try the ‘dirty boy’ with caramelised onions, garlic, thyme-baked mushrooms and smoked pancetta or the jokily named Jon Bon Chovy. Otherwise, go for one of the sliders, a sharing platter of cured meats or a ‘GF’ bean assemblage (butterbeans topped with goats’ cheese, walnuts olives etc, for example). There are 2-for-1 deals on Mondays, while pub quizzes bring in the eggheads on Tuesday evenings.
