A splendid garden and alfresco space complete with its own bar and BBQ area is one of the main attractions at this Fuller’s pub on Cowcross Street, although the interior cuts the mustard with its swathes of chrome and blond wood, couches, sofas and live sport on TV. The food is a fairly safe run through the gastropub repertoire, ranging from platters of cured meats and mezze to burgers and rib-eye steaks – although there are a few quirky touches here and there. Potted smoked mackerel comes with horseradish ricotta and lamb shanks are braised with figs and honey, while veggies might fancy winter squash with quinoa, barrel-aged feta, pine kernels and sage vinaigrette. Drinkers can pick from a line-up of Fuller’s brews, and the wine list is a respectable collection of reasonably priced bottles.
