Recently refurbished, The Dog & Gun is a 17th century coaching inn that welcomes in customers as a warm village hangout. The decor nods to its historic charm, and the menu includes a variety of nole pizzas, alongside delicious options like stone baked sole and an assortment of small plates, all crafted to pair well with a refreshing pint. With its cosy and informal atmosphere, The Dog gives off a welcoming vibe that perfectly complements the pub's character. The menu begins with a selection of starters including Chalk Stream trout gravadlax with apple and horseradish cream, pickles, and sourdough, along with a chorizo scotch egg with sweet mustard ketchup. There is a pie selection too, perfect for pub lunches, and it includes Castlemead chicken, smoked gammon and leek along with a traditional grass fed beef and stout. Non-pizza mains include the crispy chicken burger topped with Monterey Jack, pickles, baconnaise and served with coleslaw and fries, along with Brixham cod with a celeriac puree, garlic butter beans, shallots and red wine sauce.
