The dining room is a casual, fuss-free space, reflecting the easygoing vibe of a restaurant which serves much of its dishes on wooden boards and keeps cutlery in red metal buckets on the table. The menu at The Deck is a globetrotting affair inspired by the owners’ many travels, taking in Asian street food, seafood dishes from Europe and flame-grilled meats which take inspiration from the barbecue cooking of the land down under.
Not ones to mess about. The Deck’s menu doesn’t actually feature any starters, with guests instead encouraged to skip straight to the main courses. The restaurant’s signature item is its hanging skewers, which consist of chargrilled meat or seafood presented on a hanging metal skewer, along with your choice of butter to brush your meat or fish with. Pair the likes of chicken and chorizo with sweet chilli butter or king prawns with garlic butter.
If skewers aren’t your thing, instead opt for one of The Deck’s stacked burgers, which include a steak patty with Monterey Jack cheese or a vegan chargrilled tofu and red pepper salsa variety. Elsewhere on the menu, you can find a 10oz steak, rack or ribs or a classic portion of fish and chips. You can pad out your meal too, with side dishes such as halloumi fries, sticky Texan-style pork bites or salt and pepper squid.
To finish, tuck into homemade churros and dip, a chilli chocolate brownie with clotted cream or Belgian waffles and ice cream.
