SquareMeal Review of The Crabshell Inn

Bronze Award

Fresh investment into this stunningly located Kingsbridge pub on the sunny side of the picturesque estuary makes this the stand-out local boozer by a country mile. Locals outnumber tourists but all agree the two decks of outside space deliver by the bucket load.  Well-selected and priced wines and cocktails are supported by good beers, spirits and soft drinks with an emphasis on Devon provenance. Meanwhile, easy-on-the-wallet pub grub touts calamari, cod goujons, stuffed peppers and mussels, followed by crab salad, hamburgers, fish & chips or a seafood platter for four – well worth the drive.

Great food, service and lovely scenery

We've been many times before and everytime the food and service has been great. A must everytime we visit Kingsbridge.

Recently stopped during covid times and food was still great, had seating under a gazebo as well as bench seating. Staff made the whole experience feel clean and safe as well as keeping up the usual service.

Breakfast with family

My family and I have been here before for breakfast and dinner and the occasional drink however this breakfast experience was a complete horrific shock. My father had asked for an English breakfast with well cooked eggs specifically several times and they came out totally raw. Understandably we sent them back to be cooked well done however to our shock when the eggs had returned the chef had so obviously just flipped over the uncooked eggs and didn’t cook it on both sides. We complained about this and asked for the eggs to be removed from the bill and to out shock they had removed £0.90 form the bill and that was specifically ordered from management. Not to mention the several hairs that were found on the beacon this couldn’t have been a more insulting experience for my family and I. Do not recommend to anyone, the situation was handled with complete and utter disrespect unbelievable laziness this has ruined our breakfast experience. Utterly shocked at how this business is run and have nothing good to remember this place by.

No more atmospheric place on a Friday evening when the sun shines on its outside terrace and locals flood in to unwind. Food on a classic but appealing pub menu has improved in recent years.
