By and large, this pastiche American speakeasy delivers on its promise of 'moonshine madness at Monument' – even if the accents at Bootlegger’s pretend gangster-run honky-tonk are geographically closer to Peaky Blinders Brummie than to New Jersey hoodlum. Sluice your gums in Giggle Juice (an apple and ginger punch laced with Grey Goose La Poire vodka), sip doctored hooch in milk bottles or lap up sharing cocktails served in Mason jars, teacups and crystal decanters; otherwise, order fancy fizzes, Long Island Tea and various twists on those New York classics Manhattan, Bronx and Brooklyn to go with plates of charcuterie and cheese. On Thursdays and Fridays, the party can run until 3am, as minstrels in modish vintage mufti belt out live swing, blues and jazz. Note that Bootlegger’s basement space can be hired at weekends for Prohibition-style wingdings.
