With its grand marble lobby and bronze fixtures, this must have been a glamorous pile when it opened in 1932. During WWII, US servicemen stayed here, and band leader Glenn Miller (apparently) enjoyed cocktails at its art deco bar. It’s quite a contender if you’re ‘in the mood’ for an aviation with a Reubens sandwich, Caesar salad, mini burger or something similar. Other classy calls on the drinks list include Clover Club, Negroni and Bramble, while the likes of Sex on the Beach have been banished as the hotel bids to recapture its glory days, when ‘a string of pearls’ was de rigueur for any elegant dame frequenting the place.
