The Argyle is a glistening hidden gem in the heart of Hatton Garden's diamond district. Originally enjoying life as the famous jewellery store, The King of Diamonds, it is now a wholesome British pub better known for its stunning roof terrace and cosy atmosphere.
Just a few minutes walk from Farringdon train station, the pub is well situated for a quick out-of-office lunch or a relaxed meal with friends. Spread across three floors, the dining areas offer plenty of space to enjoy all the food and drink the team have to offer.
For a simple lunch, the chef takes a traditional sandwich and elevates it to new heights with soft white bloomer bread and an accompaniment of seasoned skin-on fries. Nothing about these sandwiches says 'packed lunch sandwich' thanks to the likes of buttermilk coated chicken with lemon mayo; cod goujons with tartare; or West Country rump steak with melted cheese and sauteed peppers and onions.
In the evening, start off by sharing nibbles of soft bloomer bread, slow-roasted tomatoes and fresh marinated olives with friends, alongside a drink from the bar stocked full of craft beers, wines, and cocktails.
For starters, the offering is quite an eclectic mix, ranging from chicken goujons, to crispy whitebait, or even vegetable gyozas.
Moving onto mains, whatever your choice, it is sure to be a warming, hearty pub classic. Golden pastry encases three different fillings including slow-braised British beef, creamy chicken and bacon, or tomato, pepper and cannelini beans; each served with potatoes, vegetables and a rich gravy. However, if its pie and chips you're after, you can add a side of triple cooked chunky chips or seasoned skin-on skinny fries.
Sign off the evening with something sweet such as the British classics of bread and butter pudding or sticky toffee spong pudding,
