About
A host of imported beers and draughts from London brewers entice drinkers into this boozer on the Shoreditch-City borders. On our visit, the taps held craft ales by Yorkshire indie brewery My Generation, Conwy’s Beachcomber Blonde, and Longboard Lager from Hawaii’s Kona Brewing Company. The Angel was much improved by a refurbishment in early 2015, leaving it with updated Edwardiana, angelic styling details and blissed-out beats. Its location is handy for London’s burgeoning new-tech studios off Old Street Roundabout – but the chips served here aren’t of the silicon variety. Find them hand-cut, wedge-shaped or French-fried with battered hake, wild salmon fishcakes, short rib beef, and pork and chorizo, or accompanying a West Country beefburger (£10.50). The menu majors in modern British pub grub, but also incorporates Stateside classics: chicken Caesar, say, or mac & cheese. Brunch options, bar snacks, sharing boards, Sunday roasts and full-fat puds are further Angel delights.
