The Anchor Inn is an isolated pub-with-rooms by the side of the New Bedford River, a location that delivers Fenland at its most dramatically exhilarating. Inside, real ales & log fires add to the atmosphere, while the terrific food is based on top-notch produce from the region: venison hotpot is teamed with braised red cabbage, pan-fried sea bass is set atop chilli, herb & horseradish linguine. Starters include Bottisham smoked duck with cucumber & spring onion salad with a honey, soy & sesame dressing, while noteworthy, old-fashioned desserts could run to apple, pecan & cinnamon cake with vanilla custard. Good wines too.
