Nestled at the edge of the Paddington Basin, just a short walk from the station, Temper is a smokehouse restaurant serving BBQ classics and international dishes alongside an inventive Tequila-focused cocktail list. This makes the fifth addition to the popular chain that has been delighting Londoners with its smoky dishes for years. Expect unique interiors featuring neon lighting, firewood stacks and glass cases displaying its aging cuts, while a roaring open-grill flickers away in the kitchen.
The menu leans towards various beef, lamb and pork dishes. However, you’ll also find plenty of seafood and vegetarian options on offer, so there’s something for everyone. Start with snacks like beef fat cornbread with gochujang butter, crispy pork bites, and tacos with a variety of fillings including yellowfin tuna, burnt ends, and ‘drunken’ goat's cheese, so called as it’s served with a shot of Cazcabel honey tequila.
For the main event, there are sharing plates of barbecue smoked meats and seafood like mezcal prawns, lemon butter seabass, and lamb carnitas. Or, take a look at the prime cuts specials board, perfect served with its housemade sauces like Bourbon pepper, aji Amarillo mayo, and fermented chilli. If you have any room left, the dessert menu offers plenty of indulgence with options like peanut chocolate tart with fior di latte ice cream, and a chocolate fondue for two.
On the drinks side of things, the main attraction here is the extensive cocktail list, which has a variety of tequila, mezcal and classic concoctions. Try a spin on a classic with the Mezcal Negroni, Temper’s smoky take on the traditional Margarita, or push the boat out with some of the more daring combinations. If you prefer wine, there is also a modest wine list with international labels, reasonably priced bottles and plenty availabile by the glass.
