Found in a picture-perfect location, Talbooth is set in a beamed Tudor building by the pretty River Stour, complete with visiting swans and a picturesque bridge. Along with the main dining room, the adjoining terrace and gardens are unbeatable for summer alfresco (and riverside BBQs). Open fires add comfort in wintertime, although the whole place feels warm and welcoming whatever the time of year.
A trip to Talbooth promises an unrivalled dining experience that combines stunning food with outstanding service. The Modern European menu has been meticulously designed and thoughtfully executed to bring you an experience that is just as much an experience for the eyes as it is the taste buds. The food is carefully designed, meticulously prepared and exquisitely presented.
Diners might opt for Mersea crab tartlet with avocado, preserved lemon and pickled radish, or English asparagus with smoked egg mayonnaise and black garlic to start. Followed by Gruyere crusted halibut, farfalle, tiger prawns, peas and sauce Americaine or fillet of dry aged Dedham Vale beef and short rib, chestnut mushroom, boulangere potatoes, shallot rings and watercress for your main course, and maybe rhubarb and vanilla parfait, macerated raspberries and pistachio or blueberry souffle, followed by coffee that is served with hand-made chocolates. The restaurant was awarded 3 AA Rosettes in September 2019, a great achievement for the team.
