Steak etc is Hudson House’s New York-style steak restaurant, where you can enjoy delicious cuts of well-seasoned meat in Colchester. The restaurant can be found on the top floor of Hudson House, which now includes a bustling night club. Steak etc’s exposed brick and black leather sofas, alongside plain wooden tables tell of its simplicity: a minimal décor setting and a straightforward menu with a focus on steak.
The venue itself is a great central place to spend the evening with dinner and cocktails at Steak etc and live music in the house below afterwards. To get the night started, enjoy the Elysium pilsner on tap, a full-bodied malty craft beer created by the restaurant group itself. If you’re looking for a meat-filled dinner spot, pay Steak etc a visit every Tuesday to Saturday from 6.30-10pm. Food is served on slate tiles, again highlighting the simple dishes found on them and the meat itself.
Start your meal with a portion of sticky baby back ribs cooked in a scrumptious orange and black pepper sauce or the pan-fried scallops served with butternut squash puree, bacon lardons and crispy sage. For mains, you can either choose something from the chargrill, a gourmet burger stack or salads and pasta dishes. Pick your cut from New York strip, rump, rib eye and fillet to chateaubriand to share and top it with a sauce (we love the Jack Daniel’s BBQ). Other grilled options include maple-glazed rump of lamb with dauphinoise potatoes, roasted root vegetables and finished with a thyme-infused jus or a grill combo of steak, ribs and shrimp.
The gourmet burger shack serves all burger with French fries and coleslaw. Try the 6oz steak chilli burger in a brioche bap, topped with chilli con carne and Jack cheese. For the vegetarians venturing to this meat house, there is just one main on offer: the butternut squash tagliatelle. Moving onto dessert, dig that spoon into a pecan nut pie with a scoop of maple and walnut ice-cream or a truly American key lime pie with orange sorbet.
