At the tail end of 2022, entertainment entrepreneur Nica Burns launched Soho Place - the first new West End theatre to open in half a century. As well as a stunning new 602-seat theatre, Soho Place also boasts an in-house restaurant and bar - Stars - which guests can visit independently, or as part of a booking when they see a show.
The restaurant itself is spacious, with 25 covers spread across a central Labradorite bar and another 70 in the main dining room. Hardwood floors, deep red seating and plush banquettes give the space a sophisticated vibe, and there’s a huge constellation mural that runs through the centre of the restaurant.
The modern European menu is available for lunch and dinner, and features some really innovative, contemporary cooking given the location. Sourdough bread comes with fermented whipped kefir butter, for example, and on the small plates you’ll find Korean wings with kimchi and sesame dust, smoked salmon with wasabi yoghurt, and a beef tartare that comes with red pepper ice cream. An English burrata comes with figs, miso and smoked oil, but for those wanting something a little more middle of the road, there are cauliflower and stilton croquettes, as well as a more classic sea bream crudo.
Mains are a little more classic, with dishes including chicken schnitzel with slaw and cayenne mayonnaise, pork belly with tenderstem broccoli, grilled sea bass with pea puree and corn fed chicken breast with truffled chanterelle mushrooms.
As well as the a la carte, Stars also offers a speedy set menu that gives diners a quick option if they’re eating before seeing a show or coming in for a quick lunch.
Meanwhile, the drinks menu features a variety of signature cocktails, including classic twists, unique in-house mixes and boozy frozen slushies.
