Quaint Cookham has a reputation for its quality Indian restaurants, and Spice Merchant @ Cookham Tandoori is probably the best in town. Housed in an ancient listed building on the high street, from the outside it's as far removed from India as can be. But for the stomach and nose, it's a different story. Sikendari badi lamb is an exotic slow-cooked marriage of lamb shank, herbs and spices. Much lighter, but just as memorable for the taste buds, is the tandoori paneer shashlick - gently spiced diced Indian cheese accompanied by an aromatic assortment of vegetables. Service levels are high and the food consistently good. Everyone from the rich and famous to families graces this charming restaurant. Will you join them?
