SquareMeal Review of Spaghetti House Woodstock Street
Spaghetti House (established in 1955) played no small part in turning the risk-averse British dining public into the sophisticated tiramisu & taleggio lovers of today. While newer restaurants tout voguish ingredients & trendy ideas, SH’s branches strike a balance between ‘Britalian’ favourites & authentic regional flavours. Expect to find blasts from the culinary past such as prawns, avocado & iceberg lettuce, breaded veal escalope with spaghetti napoli, Hawaiian pizza & profiteroles alongside smarter choices like pizza bianca with potato, rosemary & pancetta, arancini al Gorgonzola, & affogato. But who can say where the Italian burger & pizza Nutella fit in? The all-Italian wine list works hard to introduce good regional & varietal coverage where it can, & rarely exceeds the £30 mark. Beer is basic Moretti.
