Slim Chickens, having taken started nearly twenty years the go and taken the UK by storm, can add Cambridge Circus to its growing fleet of fried chicken outlets. Possibly the most central fried chicken joint in the whole of London, this branch is located on the Cambridge Circus junction itself, near Leicester Square and Covent Garden tube stations. Here, you'll find a huge range of chicken or plant-based alternative dishes, built on the delta philosophy that food should be honest, meals should be social and the door should always be open.
The first must-try item on the menu here is the buttermilk tenders. These juicy strips have been marinated in live buttermilk before being deep fried to crispy perfection. They are, like most of the dishes, available solo or as a main. And to dip? There is a ridiculously huge selection of sauces: blue cheese, buffalo, cayenne ranch, garlic cheese, gravy mayo, honey BBQ, honey mustard, house ranch, inferno, Korean BBQ, mango habanero, slim sauce, spicy BBQ and sriracha garlic. The sandwiches, meanwhile, are a great option for something a little heartier, as are the wraps. For sharing, try the breaded wings (again with the huge sauce selection). All meals come with seasoned fries, Texas toast, house sauces and bottomless soda.
Be sure to sample some of the sides on your visit, including fried pickles, slaw, mac n cheese and crispy fried onions. To drink, it's shakes all the way. Choose from classic flavours like vanilla, chocolate and strawberry, as well as more intriguing options like Oreo, banana, popcorn, salted caramel and flake. Finish with a house 'freezecake'. These tasty pots are essentially a scoopable frozen cheesecake, and a welcome addition to the UK from America. The two flavours typically available are chocolate cookie dough and strawberry shortcake, although special flavours may be available temporarily.
