Walking into Sam’s, you could be forgiven for thinking that you had just entered a Hollywood diner – it’s splattered with movie memorabilia & has a cool, upbeat vibe. The menu screams ‘diner’ too, with pride of place going to homemade burgers (full ‘pounders’ if you’re hungry) served medium-rare with salad & a mound of chips. A big blackboard displays the best in local seafood, say calamari & mussels or Cornish lobster in season. There are no quibbles over the keenly priced drinks list either: grab a beer to go with your burger or pick a crisp white wine to enjoy with your seafood. Everything is served by a bevy of cheery, clued-up staff with long-service medals. Sam’s doesn’t take bookings, so expect to wait at the bar when it’s busy.
