Rumour has it there’s a pretty pink restaurant in Mayfair that serves up globally inspired dishes, from brunch through lunch and supper and all the way to late-night snacking. Tucked away on traffic-free Heddon Street, Rumours is a magnet for the Insta generation who delight in lavish interiors and photogenic food, but also for anyone who fancies whiling away a couple of hours over shisha and a cigar.
The decor at Rumours is striking to say the least. Floor-to-ceiling windows allow sunlight to stream in, illuminating the bright pink walls, pink and teal seating and marble-topped tables, while opulent touches here and there, such as orb lighting, feathery displays, and flamingo-print wallpaper in the bathrooms complete the eclectic look.
Rumours takes its inspiration from the melting pot of cultures in London, which is why it aims to have something for everyone on a menu that spans the globe. There are fresh and filling salads for the virtuous – think salmon poke with brown rice; spinach, avocado and sesame; and quinoa, pomegranate and cucumber – and hearty main dishes for guests looking to fill up. Larger plates come in the form of prawn linguine, roasted salmon with miso, and chicken paillard, while small plates include the likes of truffle arancini, beef carpaccio, and spicy edamame.
Rumours is also big on brunch, where favourites such as avocado on sourdough, and pancakes with banana and maple syrup can be ordered alongside coffee, fresh juices, homemade sodas, smoothies and CBD cocktails. Then, as the sun starts to set, it’s time for cocktails, beers, wines and something to smoke, if you’re so inclined.
As you’d expect from any stylish London haunt with a social presence as large as this one, Rumours has plenty of options for vegetarians and vegans, from non-dairy milks to a juicy plant-based burger.
