1890 by Gordon Ramsay is housed within London’s iconic The Savoy and offers guests a contemporary fine dining experience. The name of the restaurant, 1890, pays homage to French chef and restaurateur Georges Auguste Escoffier who joined The Savoy in 1890 and became director of its kitchens. He’s famed for his updated approach to French cooking and the restaurant pays homage to his contribution to culinary standards across the world. Restaurant 1890 joins Gordon Ramsay's existing restaurants at The Savoy, namely the Savoy Grill and The River Restaurant.
The 26-cover dining room ensures an intimate and elevated dining experience for customers to indulge in its exclusive tasting menu (with wine pairing available). The idea is that the restaurant offers diners an exclusive kitchen table experience, but in a restaurant setting. The menu features ingredients sourced from all over the world, including top British luxury food suppliers and a vintage wine list to top it all off.
Gordon Ramsay describes the tasting menu as ‘seasonal modern French with European influences’, with the kitchen overseen by executive head chef James Sharp, who has previous experience cooking as senior sous chef at Michelin-starred Petrus by Gordon Ramsay. He joined the Group in 2015 at Restaurant Gordon Ramsay in Royal Hospital Road.
Ramsay also says that signature dishes include ‘vol-au-vent Lobster with a fragrant herb purée; caviar bisque; the Veronique garnish with the beautiful turbot and Champagne velouté and the stunning sauce Bordelaise accompanying the beef short rib – dishes that are, I hope, befitting our reference to the great M. Escoffier.’
The interiors have been designed by Russel Sage Studios and in keeping with the quintessential art deco style of The Savoy. Overlooking the hotel's entrance, the restaurant boasts glamourous gold hues, comfortable seating, two large arched mirrors and white tablecloths.
The restaurant is open Wednesday to Saturday and offers two dinner sittings per evening
