Rendezvous is a gorgeous wine bar and restaurant in the beautiful Southernhay Quarter of the city and is ideal for a romantic evening or a casual dinner among friends or colleagues. The restaurant is moodily lit and has a cool ambience, with stone and wooden features throughout – plus the fireplaces add to the cosy feel of the place.
The wine bar offers a wonderful selection of European bottles from Austrian whites to Spanish reds, plus there is a special of the month to choose from, carefully selected by the sommelier. In addition to the stunning selection grapes, there are also exceptional champagnes, draught lagers, and local ales.
The food at Rendezvous is exciting and is well-sourced from local producers in the area, and everything is made in-house. The team is led by chef Tim Andrews, who has curated a brilliant menu of West Country cuisine ranging from starters of ham hock and confit chicken with smoked cheddar rarebit crumpet and crispy hen egg to bubble and squeak with spinach, kale, dukkah, and mustard hollandaise. The menu takes classic dishes and gives them a fine tune with excellent ingredients and technical skill. The roast saddle of lam and shoulder is definitely a highlight of the scrumptious menu, and is nicely rounded off with a spice plum, rhubarb, and apple crumbled levelled up with rich clotted cream.
You would do well to bring your friends or a date to this cosy spot, as the team at Rendezvous work hard to impress and deliver fantastic British food with a high-end flourish. The restaurant also does a great set menu for lunchtimes and dinnertimes throughout the week – reasonable priced for two-courses. Plus in the warmer months, you can pop in for a coffee on the weekends while enjoying the beautiful walled gardens of the property.
