Owned and run by the Fusco family since 1999, Quayside is an award-winning fish and chips restaurant located on Whitby's Pier Road. The fully-licensed restaurant prides itself on using high quality, sustainably sourced ingredients in its dishes and caters for all ages. Split over two floors, Quayside has gorgeous panoramic views across the quay, while its relaxed ambience lends itself brilliantly both to quick family lunches, and lengthier evening meals.
The historic building which houses Quayside dates back to 1820's, when it was a bath house used by local fisherman after spending their days at sea. So it seems appropriate that freshly caught fish is the central focus at Quayside. The building was also the town's library at one point and Bram Stoker is said to have carried out some research for his novel Dracula here. The inside of the restaurant is surprisingly elegant for a fish and chips shop, with tables that stare out over the water and stylish décor. This is complemented by attentive service from the staff.
In terms of the food menu at Quayside, there is plenty to choose from. Fish and chips options range from a classic cod supper served with all the trimmings including homemade mushy peas and bread from local bakery Botham's to lemon sole and even homemade fishcakes. Sides of baked beans and homemade curry sauce only add to the indulgence. There is also a section on the menu dedicated to non-fish dishes; you can expect everything from steak pie with chips and gravy to a vegan friendly falafel burger.
A short wine list accompanies the food offering with options ranging from £15 a bottle to over £50, while there are also beers available both on draught and by the bottle, as well as a selection of gins, and soft drinks for non-drinkers.
