Hidden down a side alley off High Holborn, Pu’s is an address worth remembering if you’re after decent, reasonably priced Thai food in a neighbourhood awash with sandwich chains. It’s ‘not the busiest, most atmospheric or luxurious of restaurants’ & readers agree it’s not a place to linger – that said, the tiny no-frills dining room is invariably packed, with extra tables out on the pavement in summer. Service can be unreliable at peak times, but all the Thai standbys are present & correct, from chicken satay, hot & sour tom yum soup & spicy fishcakes through to fragrant red & green curries, stir-fries & pad thai. Prices rarely break the £10 barrier & wines have been chosen to complement the food, although a cold Singha beer also hits the spot.
