In Wester Broom, on the west side of Edinburgh, Prana Indian Grill is a fan-favourite among locals and something of a hidden gem. Those in the know flock here for the excellent food and drink, as well as lovely service from the warm and friendly staff. The interiors are more stylish than most other restaurants of this ilk, with a stunning botanical feature on the ceiling, mural-style art on the walls and elegant plating. The food selection is enormous, featuring street food-style starters, grilled platters, curries and more.
Start your meal at Prana with one of the exotic house cocktails. The tandoori bloody Mary is a favourite of ours, adding an Indian twist to the classic version. For something a little fruitier, there's the 'edinberry', which blends fresh strawberry, raspberry, blueberry, lime, Chambord and Absolut raspberry vodka. More familiar options like mojitos or spicy Palomas are available too. There's a pleasing list of primarily new-world wines to accompany your food, including a New Zealand Pinot Gris that is ideal for curries. Mango and salted caramel lassis feature too, perfect for those with a sweeter tooth or a palate in need of soothing after a fiery curry.
The starters at Prana pack a punch when it comes to favour and show off a bit of artistic flair when it comes to plating. Highlights include the crayfish with pink grapefruit and an avocado paprika mousse, hand-dived scallops with moilee sauce or a tandoori partridge marinated in honey, cinnamon and ginger.
The 'chill grill' platter is an absolute must for newcomers, featuring two chicken tikkas, two cheesy chicken tikkas, two lamb chops, two venison seekh kebabs, two grilled fillets of seabass and one butter naan to share between two. If you prefer curry, then there are plenty to choose from in that department too, including a fiery railway chilli garlic chicken and more mellow paneer malai.
