Located in the middle of both Old town and New Town Edinburgh, this Patisserie Valerie is a great place to spend the afternoon relaxing after a day sightseeing around the historical city. Showcasing beautiful French patisserie, pastries and cakes in its window it will be difficult to walk past without at least getting a cake slice to takeaway for later.
Created in 1926 to showcase the best of French patisserie, there are now branches all over the UK where you can try its sweet creations and instagrammable cakes.
Serving up its speciality cake slices in five classic flavours which include strawberry gateau, double chocolate, black forest, mille-feuille and baked cheesecake each slice is perfectly sized for one portion, although we totally understand if you still have room for more. If that is the case, why not try one of the eclairs or tarts afterwards to make sure you get the full Patisserie Valerie experience.
If you don’t happen to have a sweet tooth, its selection of sandwiches available at the counter is great for quick lunches and takeaways. Alternatively if you have a bit more time on your hands, the all-day dining menu has dishes all the way from brunch through to the evening with lots of European dishes on offer. Expect lasagne, chicken escalope and chicken Caesar salad. To finish off your main meal, you of course have all the cakes at the counter to choose from. There is also a warm dessert menu with the likes of waffles, brownies and pancakes on it.
Even though you can have all of the treats on offer in the stylish and traditional French café/ bistro, it also offers takeaways, and with such pretty takeaway boxes, not only does it add to the excitement of the treats inside, but it also makes for a perfect last minute gift to take to someone’s house or dinner party.
